Cie Games Names VPs
----
Long Beach-based Cie Games, which publishes the Car Town mobile and
social games, has named two new executives this morning. The company
said it has named Matt Nutt as Vice President of Business Development
and Operations, and Chong Ahn as Executive Producer overseeing mobile
game design and creation. Cie Games said it now has nearly 65 million
registered players on its Facebook game Car Town. Nutt was previously
at Square Enix, and also served at Blizzard ENtertainment and
Expedia/Microsoft. Chong was previously at Square Enix and also served
at Ubisoft.

XIRSYS Takes On WebRTC Hosting
----
One of the newest web standards to emerge in the world of video
hosting and streaming is WebRTC, a new open source project
specifically aimed at allowing web browser applications to support
real time communications. To address that, a new, local startup,
XirSys has launched a new infrastructure-as-a-service aimed at hosting
WebRTC applications and services. The Valencia-based startup announced
today that it has launched, and has opened up a beta test of its
service to developers. The new startup comes out of Influxis, a firm
which had been providing hosting for flash-based RTC. The new startup
is headed by Richard Blakely.

JustEnough Software Expands In Europe
----
Newport Beach-based JustEnough Software, which develops pricing and
demand optimization software for the retail, wholesale, an
direct-to-consumer markets, said this morning that it is expanding in
Europe. The company said it named Ian Nicol as Regional Director for
Europe, and Keith Newton as its new European Sales Director. Nicol
will head up a new office in London, and previously served at
Revionics and Retail Express Limited, as well as JDA Software,
Armature and ACI Ltd.

Emulex Steals Operations VP From QLogic
----
Costa Mesa-based Emulex said Monday that it has named a new VP of
operations. According to the maker of storage and server network
products, Perry Mulligan has joined the company as Senior Vice
President of Operations. Mulligan was most recently SVP of Operations
at crosstown rival QLogic, heading up operations, test engineering,
supply chain management, IT and facilities management. Mulligan
previously also served at Solectron, Celestica, and Nortel. Emulex
develops Ethernet and Fibre Channel-based connectivity products.

Domain Associates: Fifth Investment With Rusnano From $760M Fund
----
San Diego-based venture investor Domain Associates is reporting that a
fifth company in its portfolio--ReVision Optics--has received funding
via its agreement with Rusnano, the Russian state's investment
corporation. Revision optics announced a $55M funding round Monday
morning. Domain inked a deal with Rusnano to create a $760 million
co-investment partnership, back in March of last year, as it sought to
find a way to more reliably provide late stage capital to its
portfolio companies. Rusnano has agreed to invest along with Domain
and its investor syndicates. Domain said that the deal has opened up
an "innovative source" of late-stage financing for its health science
companies.

ReVision Optics Gets $55M For Vision Treatments
----
Lake Forest-based Revision Optics announced Monday morning that it has
raised $55M in a new equity funding, for the company's implantable
corneal inlay treatment for presbyopia. The company said the funding
included Canaan Partners, ProQuest Investments, InterWest Partners and
Domain Associates, as well as new investors Johnson & Johnson
Development Corporation (JJDC) and RusnanoMedInvest (RMI). The company
said the new funding will provide its with the resources to carry it
through the FDA PMA process for its product, and also to help it
expand its commercial footprint outside the U.S. Revision optics is
developing a medical device which is designed to reduce or eliminate
the need for reading glasses.

NationBuilder Adds Mac Editing Support
----
Los Angeles-based NationBuilder, the operator of the online service to
help manage political campaigns, nonprofits, government organizations,
and business outreach, has bolstered its support for the Mac. The
company said over the weekend that it has launched a new Mac app,
which helps designers synchronize their templates with the Mac. The
company said the new tool, NationBuilder Theme Sync for Mac, helps
Mac-based designers edit files on their own machine, rather than using
the company's browser based tools.

AeroVironment Gets FAA Approval On Commercial Drone Use
----
Monrovia-based unmanned aircraft maker Aerovironment said Friday that
it has received approval from the Federal Aviation Administration
(FAA) for the use of one of its unmanned aircraft for commercial use.

aTyr Pharma Gets $10M In Venture Debt
----
San Diego-based aTyr Pharma, a developer of protein-based
therapeutics, said today that it has raised $10M in a debt financing
round. The funding came from Silicon Valley Bank. According to the
company, the new funding will go towards clinical development of its
first therapeutic program, which is aimed at treatments of rare
autoimmune diseases and a rare disease pipeline in immune disorders.
Specific details of the terms of that venture debt were not announced
by the company. aTyr Pharma is led by John Medlein.

Local Corporation Sells Spreebird
----
Irvine-based Local Corporation is abandoning the daily deals market,
saying this morning that it has sold its Spreebird daily deals
business to nCrowd. Financial terms of the sale were not announced.
Local Corporation said that nCrowd has acquired both the Spreebird
business and all related assets, as the company has decided to exit
from the direct SMB sales market. Local Corporation said it expects
the sale will improve earnings and cash flow for the year by
approximately $600,000 a year. Local Corporation launched its
Spreebird daily deals service in 2011, at the height of the daily
deals craze.

Infrascale Ties Into SharePoint
----
Los Angeles-based cloud storage provider Infrascale announced this
morning that it has connected its enterprise collaboration tool,
FileLocker, with Microsoft's popular SharePoint software. According to
InfraScale, its FileLocker tools provides encryption and cloud-based
sharing of data to customers in SharePoint, including synchronization
tools, in-cloud file editing, cloud access to SharePoint files via
iPhone/iPad, Android, and Windows Phone, and more. InfraScale offers
up a range of software used in cloud storage.

Activision Blizzard Splits From Vivendi In $8 Billion Deal

In a complex deal, Santa Monica-based Activision Blizzard said last
night that it has reached a deal with Vivendi, where it will acquire
approximately 429 million shares of the company, in exchange for $5.

Meditope Biosciences Gets $3.6M For Cancer Treatments
----
Los Angeles-based Meditope Biosciences announced this morning that it
has raised $3.6M in a Series A financing, to accelerate development of
its antibody-based cancer products. The startup said the investment
came from angel investors. Meditope Biosciences is headed by Stephanie
Hsieh, and says it is developing proprietary monocolonal antibody
(mAb) linker technology. Meditope's technology was originally
developed at the City of Hope Cancer Center. As part of the funding
round, the company also said it has named Elisabeth Gardiner, Ph.D.,
as its Chief Scientific Officer. Gardiner previously was at aTyr
Pharma and the Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation.

FaceFirst Snags CFO From X PRIZE Foundation
----
Camarillo-based FaceFirst, a startup which is developing facial
recognition technology aimed at the business security, public safety,
and law enforcement markets, said today that it has added David Donell
as its Chief Financial Officer. Donell was previously the CFO at the X
PRIZE Foundation, the nonprofit foundation which focuses on running
prizes to encourage the development of technology to solve the world's
life science, energy, environment, and exploration challenges. Donell
also served at Intuitive Associates, Avega Health Systems, and
Fasturn, among other roles. FaceFirst said it is venture backed by
Kayne Partners.

Tealium Ties With Splunk
----
San Diego-based enterprise tag management software provider Tealium
said this week that it has partnred with Splunk, a developer of IT log

Oversee.net Names Finance Segment GM
----
Los Angeles-based Oversee.net announced this morning that it has named
a new General Manager of its Consumer Finance Group. The
company--which owns a portfolio of consumer focused, lead generation
and other online marketing websites--said that McFarland will head up
its consumer finance websites such as CreditCards.org. McFarland was
most recently at OneWest Bank, and was previously VP, Product
Management at AT&T Interactive, and also had served at Green Dot and
WeddingChannel.com. McFarland will report to Oversee.net CEO Debra
Domeyer. Oversee.net's finance sites include CreditCards.org,
BadCreditOffers.com, CreditCard321.com and ConsumerLoans.com.

Molten Games Scores Funding From NCSOFT
----
San Diego-based online gaming startup Molten Games has raised a round
of initial funding from NCSOFT, in a Series A round, the company said
Wednesday. According to Molten Games, it received a multimillion
dollar investment from NCSOFT, the Korean gaming company, to help form
the company to develop online games. The startup, which is headed by
and was founded by Jungwon Hahn, did not disclose the amount of
funding. The company said its executives come from Blizzard, Sony
Online and Relic Entertainment. Molten Games did not provide any other
details on the types of online games it plans to develop.

Kareo Buys Medical Billing Company
----
Irvine-based Kareo, which develops cloud-based software for medical
office practice management, has acquired a provider of medical billing
services. According to Kareo, it acquired ECCO Health, which it says
has been providing medical billing services for the last decade in Las
Vegas. Financial details of the buy were not announced. Kareo said it
will use the buy to bolster its Kareo Billing Services product, which
it says now provides medical billing serves to over 500 medical
practices nationwide. As partof the acquisition, Kareo has offered
employment to all of ECCO's employees.

Headed for a Slowdown? ACG 101. Californians love their cars, and the
automotive industry loves California. The state generates 11% of all U.S.
retail sales, and accounts for a third of all electric vehicle sales and a
quarter of all hybrids sold.  Our ports handle 10 million imported cars per
year. More than 150,000 Southern Californians are employed in in
manufacturing, distributing, selling and repairing motor vehicles, parts
and supplies. Southern California is the home to the American operations
of Honda, Toyota, Mazda, Hyundai, Kia, Mitsubishi, Volvo, Tesla and other
