Demand Media Connects Users To Experts Via eHow Now

Freedom Meditech Raises $7M For Diabetes Monitoring
----
San Diego-based Freedom-Meditech, which is developing a medical device
which measures blood sugar by monitoring a user's eyes, has raised $7M
in a Series B funding round. The company said the funding comes from
both new and returning investors, however, the firm did not name those
investors. As part of the funding, the company said it has added
former Fidelity Investments portfolio manager Andy Sassine to its
board of directors. Freedom-Meditech is developing a non-invasive,
blood glucose measuring tool which is used by holding a small,
handheld device in front of a user's eye. The firm said it has now
raised $10M in funding.

OVGuide Enhances Android Movie App
----
Los Angeles-based OVGuide, which provides online video guides, said it
has enhanced its Android-based movie application. The startup, which
is backed by Baroda Ventures, said the new software adds new search
tools, international availability, as well as other features. OVGuide
said that users can watch more than 4,000 full movies through its
apps, as well as access trailers and clips via their tablets and
smartphones. OVGuide also provides iPhone and Roku versions of the
app. OVGuide also said it now lets users in the UK, Canada, and
Australia use the app, with plans to expand to other countries soon.

Ambry Genetics Countersues Myriad Genetics
----
Aliso Viejo-based cancer and genetics testing providre Ambry Genetics
said this morning that it is suing Myriad Genetics, in a response to a
patent infringement lawsuit filed by Myriad and others against the
company last month. Ambry Genetics claimed Myriad's patent lawsuit
against the company is a violation of the Sherman Antitrust Act, and
that Myriad is looking to monopolize testing of human BRCA1 and BRCA2
genes. Ambry said that Myriad's "anticompetitive conduct" means
consumers have to pay "significantly higher prices" for cancer
testing.

DriveCam Signs Up Illinois Distributor
----
San Diego-based DriveCam, the developer of fleet monitoring and
driving monitoring systems, reported a win today with an Illinois
distribution company. DriveCam said it has signed a multi-year
contract to provide its systems to KeHE Distributors, which operates
12 distribution centers throughout the U.S. Financial impact of the
deal were not announced. DriveCam provides driver monitoring systems
which include both video and driving sensor data, and are being used
to both increase safety as well as better manage fuel consumption.

Edison International Buys Solar Power Company
----
Rosemead, California-based electric utility Edison International said
Monday that it has acquired a solar technology developer, SoCore
Energy. Financial details of the buy were not disclosed. SoCore Energy
is a Chicago-based solar developer which installs and operates
commercial solar rooftop installations. Edison says that SoCore Energy
has designed, installed, and operates 80 commercial-scale solar
installations in 11 states, including installations for IKEA,
Walgreens, Kimco Realty, and The Simon Property Group.

Teletrac Sold To Danaher
----
Garden Grove-based Teletrac, a developer of cloud-based,
software-as-a-service products for fleet tracking and fleet operators,
has been sold to Danaher, according to private equity investor Vector
Capital. Financial terms of the sale were not disclosed. According to
Vector Capital, Teletrac is currently providing network tracking of
200,000 vehicles across 87 countries.

CONNECT CEO Passes Away From Bicycling Injuries
----
One of the leaders of Southern California's most influential
technology organizations, CONNECT, has passed away after suffering
injuries in a bicycling accident. Duane Roth, the well known leader of
San Diego's CONNECT, died Saturday of injuries he suffered in a
bicycling accident on July 21st. Roth had been in a medically induced
coma since suffering a fall as part of a charity bicycling ride. Roth
also had been Vice Chairman of the California Institute for
Regenerative Medicine, and had been co-founder of Alliance
Pharmaceutical Corp. CONNECT is one of the largest groups in the San
Diego area helping the local technology and biotech industry.

BioBeats Seeded With $650,000
----
Beverly Hills-based BioBeats, which develops healthcare apps which
says it combines entertainment with healthcare, by generating music
from your heartbeat, has raised $650,000 in a seed funding round. The
company says it is developing mobile apps for the entertainment,
consumer health and wellness and clinical medicine areas. The
company's investors include ENIAC Ventures, Kevin Colleran, ZhenFund,
Cantora Records, Will Smith, Damon Wayans, Scooter Braun, Justin
Boreta, among others.
