(More...) http://www.socaltech.com/los_angeles_venture_investors_mojo_back/s-0054406.html Lynda.com Buys Compilr ---- Carpinteria-based online video education site Lynda.com said today that it has acquired Compilr, a developer of a software coding and development environment which lets people learn how to write, compile, and test code from their web browser. Financial terms of the acquisition were not announced. According to Lynda.com, it will use the acquisition to expand its programming learning tools. Lynda.com offers up online education across a wide range of areas, including creative software, business skills, languages, and software. OneRoof Energy Expands In Northeast ---- San Diego-based solar power lease provider OneRoof Energy said this morning that it has expanded into the Northeast, and has started offering residential solar leases in Massachusetts. OneRoof Energy said it is opening up new offices in Newton, close to downtown Boston, as part of the expansion. OneRoof Energy provides financing for the installation of solar panels on residences, working with local solar installers. The new move brings its total number of markets covered to four, as the company also operates in California, Arizona, and Hawaii. OneRoof Energy says it now has approximately 175 full time employees. The company says it also is planning more northeastern expansion, although the company did not say which states and how quickly it expects that expansion to happen. MaxCDN Ties With Web Firewall Provider ---- Los Angeles-based content delivery network operator MaxCDN said this morning that it has integrated its platform with a website firewall provider, Sucuri. Financial details of the link were not announced. Sucuri develops the CloudProxy Website Firewall, which is designed to provide firewall and intrusion detection for websites, in addition to protectin gfrom distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks. DTS Link With New DivX Release ---- Calabasas-based DTS, the provider of surround sound audio technology, and San Diego-based video encoding/decoding software provider DivX have integrated their respective solutions together in the latest DivX software release. The two said that DTS-HD audio encoding and decoding is now part of the DivX 10 software release, which lets users create and playback video with DTS-HD audio on Windows and Mac. Financial details of the deal were not announced. The two said that DTS-HD is specifically aimed at enabling surround sound with streaming media services. SpaceX Set To Get Chance At Military Satellite Launches ---- Hawthorne-based SpaceX, the commercial rocket company headed by tech mogul Elon Musk, is set to get a chance to bid on launch contracts for the Department of Defense, according to Gen. William Shelton, commander of the U.S. Air Force Space Command. Shelton said in a congressional hearing this week that SpaceX is expected to gain a chance to launch smaller military payloads sometime next year, according to the WSJ. SpaceX has been lobbying to get a chance to launch the United States' military and intelligence contracts, in competition with the United Launch Alliance, as tensions have been rising with Russia. Russia is a major provider of Atlast 5 rockets for the United Launch Alliance, which currently has a near total monopoly on U.S. military launches. http://www.socaltech.com/spacex_at_military_satellite_launches/s-0054405.html TrueCar Files For IPO ---- Santa Monica-based TrueCar has filed for an IPO, saying Friday that it is looking to raise up to $125M on the NASDAQ Global Select Market as TRUE. The IPO is being underwritten by Goldman, Sachs & Co. and J.P. Morgan. TrueCar--which is led by Scott Painter--is backed by USAA, Capricorn Investment Group, Upfront Ventures, Anthem Ventures, Vulcan Capital Growth Equity, and Peppy Capital Partners. TrueCar reported a loss of $22.6M on revenues of $133.958M for the year ended December 13, 2013. TrueCar provides auto car buying technology, which powers a number of affiliate auto buying programs, and also offers up data on new car pricing and referrals to local car dealers. http://www.socaltech.com/truecar_files_for_ipo/s-0054404.html Solid Concepts Acquired By Stratasys For $295M ---- Valencia, California-based Solid Concepts, a provider of 3D printing and prototyping services, has been acquired by Stratasys Ltd. in a deal worth $295M. According to the companies, Stratasys will pay $172M in cash on closing, plus deferred payments of $60M and up to $63M in retention-related payments for Solid Concepts. Solid Concepts operates six, U.S. facilities and employes a total of 450 employees, which uses 3D printing technology for prototyping parts for the medical, aerospace, industrial, and other industries. Stratasys said it would combine Solid Concepts with two other companies--Harvest Technologies and RedEye--to create a manufacturing company focused on additive manufacturing. Newlight Technologies Finds $9.2M For Carbon Negative Plastics ---- Irvine-based Newlight Technologies, a developer of technology which converts greenhouse gases into plastic, has raised $9.2M in a funding round, the company said last week. According to the company, the new funding brings its total raised to $18.8M. Newlight said the funding came from both new and existing investors. Names of those investors were not announced.
