TYLT Labs'  New Seed Fund And The Promise Of Silicon Beach
----

There seems to a perpetual shortage of local venture capital investors
in the region, despite the huge growth in startup activity here,
particularly along Silicon Beach. However, that's slowly starting to
change, as investors have started to realize the opportunities in the
area, and have started setting up operations here to tap into the
wealth of startup talent. Among those funds is TYLT Labs
(www.tyltlabs.com), which recently announced a new, $20M early stage
investment fund specifically focused on companis here. We spoke with
Rami Rostami and Gerard Casale, who are behind TYLT Labs, and who told
us a bit about their new fund, its investment criteria, and where it
sees the promise here.

Levine Leichtman Sells Luminator Technology Group
----
Los Angeles-based private equity investor Levine Leichtman Capital
Partners said Monday that it has sold its portfolio company Luminator
Technology Group (LTG) to Audax Group. Financial terms of the sale
were not disclosed. Levine Leichtman has owned Luminator Technology
Group since 2010. Luminator Technology Group provides lighting and
display systems for the bus, rail, and aerospace passenger industry.
LTG was advised by Robert W. Baird & Co. and Gotshal and Manges LLP in
the deal.

Karmacoin Takes On Virtual Currency Tipping Via Twitter
----
Los Angeles-based Karmacoin has rolled out a new, virtual currency,
and a service to let users "tip" and reward other users using Twitter.
According to the company, its new service lets anyone send other
people its digital currency on Twitter, with the idea that people can
pay for micro content and make micro donations using the popular
social networking and communications service. Karmacoin explained that
it is a digital currency like Bitcoin, with a specific aim at the
"good economy". Currently, users can only buy Karmacoin by exchanging
their existing Bitcoins into the currency through a Bitcoin exchange.

Semtech Gets Design Win With French Company
----
Camarillo-based analog and mixed signal semiconductor provider Semtech
reports a design win this morning, with French company KERLINK M2M
Technologies. According to Semtech, KERLINK is using its long range
LoRa technology for a machine-to-machine (M2M) gateway. Financial
impact of the win was not announced. KERLINK's gateway helps connect
machine-to-machine sensors located up to tens of kilometers away; the
companies said the product is designed to connect sensors, meters, and
other connected devices.

Zadara Storage Expands in Australia
----
Irvine-based cloud storage provider Zadara Storage said today that it
has expanded its service in Australia, after the deployment of its
product by partner SerenITaaS. According to Zadara, the company's
solution is being deployed in Amazon's AWS Asia Pacific (Sydney)
region, and becomes the tenth global data center running its service.
Zadara's cloud storage service and software uses commodity cloud
storage for supply9ing enterprise storage.

Rubicon Project's Big Winners: Clearstone, News Corp., Mayfield
----
Who were the biggest winners in the successful IPO of Santa
Monica-based Rubicon Project? Based on Rubicon's current price (around
$19.24 per share in trading Monday), the biggest winner from the IPO
last week was venture capital fund Clearstone Venture Partners, whose
stake in Rubicon Project was worth around $121M today; other winners
were News Corporation ($91.5M); Mayfield Fund ($79.29M);  (More...)

Sonos Connects To MLB.com
----
Santa Barbara-based whole home audio system maker Sonos said Monday
that it is is now streaming all of the games from MLB.com, letting
baseball fans listen to all of the game audio for every team, live via
its audio system. According to Sonos, the service requires a
subscription to MLB.com's Gameday Audio service, which costs $19.99 a
year, but will let users listen to every regular season and Postseason
game live via its audio systems.

NoteVault Gets Funding For Mobile Notetaking Apps
----
San Diego-based Notevault, a developer of mobile apps aimed at helping
people in the engineering and construction industry tie photos and
voice notes to projects, has raised an undisclosed amount of funding.
