The company--which has had a ravenous appetite for cloud services companies--said it acquired Scene LLC,/b>, Newrise Corp., Arion IT Limited, Technology Partners LLC, Quantum RBS Inc., Comendo Security A/S, Stay Secure, and TestudoData LLC. Scene is in the media business, Newrise in the online fax business, Arion IT, Technology Partners, and Quantum RBS in the backup business, and Comendo, Stay Secure, and TestudoData in the email security area. Financial details of the acquisitions were not announced. Viper Connects Your Car With Apple Watch, Android Wear ---- Have you ever wished you could make your car--yes, your car--a smartphone-connected, smart device? A local company has just rolled out a new product which lets you start, lock, unlock, and track your car from your Android Wear or Apple Watch. Automotive accessory firm Viper, which is based in Vista, said today that it is rolling out a new set of apps for Android Wear and Apple Watch, which will do exactly that. The company said the funding came from both new and returning investors. Name of those investors were not disclosed. GlySens, which is led by Joseph Lucisano, said the funding will go towards further development of its continuous glucose monitoring systems. (More...) http://www.socaltech.com/linksys_adds_wireless_router_range_extenders/s-0058368.html Universal Electronics Wins Deal With Comcast ---- Santa Ana-based UEI reported a win this morning with Comcast, saying that it will supply voice remote controls for Comcast's XFINITY services. Financial details of the agreement were not announced. Universal Electronics said it has already been a supplier of remote controls, remote control technology, and other services to Comcast. The new remote controls apparently include voice commands to change channels and search for shows, over-the-air firmware updates, and other features for Comcast's set-top boxes. Snapchat Raises $485.6M In New Funding ---- Venice, California-based Snapchat has raised an enormous, $485.6M funding round, according to a regulatory filing from the company on New Year's Eve. Details on the funding have not yet been announced by the company. According to the filing, the funding came from 23 investors, and the first sale in the round was in April. The funding appears to be linked to an earlier reported funding effort by the company this year, led by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, which reportedly values Snapchat at over $10 billion.
