Lyft Lands $530M To Battle Uber
----
There's been a major, market battle in Los Angeles over the last few
years, between on-demand ride services such as Lyft and Uber, not to
mention local taxi and transportation companies. One of the players in
the battle--Lyft--has just raised $550M more, from Japanese e-commerce
company Rakuten. Rakuten said it agreed to purchase and 11.9 percent
stake in Lyft, investing $300M in the company as part of a larger,
$530M Series E funding for Lyft. The funding follows a bigger, $1.2
billion fundraising round for competitor Uber in December. LA has been
a major, competitive market for both Uber and Lyft, as well as
Sidecar, Flywheel, TaxiMagic, and Opoli, all of whom have targeted the
LA metro area as a key battleground over the on-demand transportation
market.

StarMaker Raises $6.5M From LA, Other Investors

StarMaker, a startup which provides tools to help musical talent
create professional videos, earn money, and help build their
following, said yesterday that it has raised $5.5M in a Series B
funding round. The company, which has offices in LA but is based in
San Francisco, said the round was led by Raine Ventures, and also
included Crosscut Ventures, Three Bridges Ventures, Qualcomm Ventures,
iGlobe Partners, GREE International, plus local LA angels Allen
DeBevoise of Machinima and Joe Perez of Tastemade. StarMaker has a
mobile app which helps YouTubers film and share music videos, and also
has partnerships with "American Idol" and "The Voice" around singing
contests to find possible talent through social channels.

Katch Launches New Product

Los Angeles-based Katch, the advertising technology developer headed

Zadara Expands In Europe
----
Irvine-based storage-as-a-service provider Zadara Storage, which is
led by storage veteran Nelson Nahum, said yesterday that it expanded
in Europe, with TelecityGroup's Cloud-IX service. Zadara said its
enterprise, storage-as-a-service is now available in Telecity's 39

Amgen Cuts 300 In San Francisco

Thousand Oaks-based biotech Amgen is cutting 300 jobs in San
Francisco, as part of a shutdown of the South San Francisco operations
of subsidiary Onyx Pharmaceuticals, according to a memo leaked from
the company on Tuesday.

Prevoty Picks Up $8M For Secure Application Software

Los Angeles-based Prevoty, a develops of software toolsets used to
provide runtime protection of applications, has raised $8M in a Series
A funding round, the company said yesterday. The funding was led by US
Venture Partners, and also included Plus Capital, Double M Capital,
Core Ventures Group, Inventures Group, Daher Capital, Digi Venture
Fund and Karlin Ventures. Prevoty i led by Julien Bellanger. Prevoty's
software development kits (SDKs) and technology helps application
developers build in their own, self-monitoring tools, which can be
used to prevent intrusion and malicious attacks.

Cinq Music Finds Funding
----
Santa Monica-based Cinq Music,  which helps music companies
distribute their music digitally, through mobile, and physical
channels, has raised a round of funding, according to GoDigital Media
Group, the investor in the company. Size of the funding was not
disclosed.  GoDigital said that Cinq Music will use the funding to
finance catalog acquisition, for advances to artists, and accelerate
development of its cloud-based technology. Cinq Music is led by Barry
Daffurn.
