Nexus eWater Gets NSF/ANSI Cert
----
San Diego- and Lancaster-based Nexus eWater, which makes a device
which recycles grey water from residences, turning formerly wasted
water into energy and water usable for irrigation and other
non-potable uses, said it has received NSF/ANSI certification for its
systems. The company says its systems can recycle two out of every
three gallons used in a home. The certification means that the system
meets water safety and treatment standards, and remove bacteria and
other . The company's technology was originally developed in
Australia, but the company now has a demonstration install in
Lancaster, and is hoping that homebuilders will offer up its product
to residents in the future. The company recently raised $2.1M in
funding.

onLoop Takes On Mobile Chat, Texting
----
Santa Monica-based onLoop, a new startup developing an app for
messaging others, said Thursday that it is launching at SXSW. The
company offers up iOS and Android apps which are aimed at letting
users find others with common interests, with users engaging with
others over posts about different topics and subjects. The startup is
led by AK Sands and was co-founded by Jacob Heinz.

Ice Energy Wins Deal In Riverside
----
Santa Barbara-based Ice Energy, a developer of energy storage
technology, reports that it has scored a win with Riverside Public
Utilities. According to Ice Energy, it has signed a five-year contract
to provide 5 megawatts of thermal energy storage, using its systems.
The company's systems will be used to reduce peak energy usage for the
City of Riverside. Ice Energy's systems freeze ice at night, during
off-peak power times, and uses that ice during the day for cooling.

Guidance Software Adds Board Member
----
Pasadena-based Guidance Software, the maker of digital forensics and
electronic discovery software, said this morning that it has named Max
Carnecchia to its board of directors. Carnecchia is the CEO of
BIOVIA-Dassault Systemes. Carnecchia was previously the President and
CEO of Accelrys, and also had served at Interwoven, Xoriant, Smart DB
Corporation, Intel, and Group 1 Software. He is also on the board of
Agilysys.

Superconductor Technologies Chops Staff
----
Superconductor Technologies, the developer of superconducting wire and
wireless component which has operations in Santa Barbara, has cut
nearly a third of the company's jobs in February, and reduced its
staff to 30. The publicly traded company disclosed the cuts yesterday,
saying that it cut 15 employees and implemented other cost cutting
measures, due to uncertainty in its business. It's unclear how many of
those cuts were in its Santa Barbara location, where the company had
been headquartered until 2011, when it moved its headquarters to
Texas. The company is down significantly from the 79 employees in had
in 2010, just before its departure to Texas.

RadPad: New Metro Line Will Boost Rents
----
Looking for a new apartment in LA (or perhaps, looking for some
investment property)? The new LA Metro extensions across the LA basin
are expected to boost rent prices by at least 25%, according to LA
rental marketplace RadPad. The startup has run the numbers--and
created an impressive infographic detailing the typical rent prices of
1 bedroom prices in LA along those new extensions.  (More...)

TicketManager Sponsors American Airlines Center
----
Calabasas-based TicketManager, the online ticket management service
led by Tony Knopp, has signed on with the American Airlines Center in
Dallas in a sponsorship deal, according to the company. TicketManager
said that the center--which is the home of the NBA Dallas Mavericks
and NHL Dallas Stars--is featuring the company's service through a
branding presence, which includes promotional giveaway nights, social
media, and more. TicketManager's service help corporate customers
manage tickets to their premium suites. TicketManager says its current
customer list includes suuch companies as American Express, AT&T,
Coca-Cola, Google, HP, and MasterCard.

Upfront Ventures Names Pando's Carney As Associate
----
Los Angeles-based venture capital investor Upfront Ventures has hired
technology journalist Michael Carney as an Associate, Pando said
Wednesday. Carney had covered technology on the West Coast for Pando.
Upfront has been bolstering its reach in the LA market recently, most
recently adding Chamillionaire as an EIR for the firm.  (more...)

Kura Oncology Finds $60M For Cancer Treatments
----
La Jolla-based Kura Oncology, a biopharmaceuticals startup focusing on
treatments for solid tumors and blood cancers, has raised $60M in a
private placement. The company said the funding came from EcoR1
Capital, along with Fidelity Management & Research Company, ARCH
Venture Partners, Boxer Capital of Tavistock Life Sciences, Partner
Fund Management, Nextech Invest, and others. In addition to the
funding, the company said it has licensed technology from Janssen
Pharmaceutica, and has entered into a reverse merger with Zeta
Acquisition Corp II, a publicly traded company ("shell"), making it a
public on the OTC markets.
