SERVIZ Gets Giant New Competitor: Amazon.com
----
Sherman Oaks-based SERVIZ, the home services marketplace founded by
former ReachLocal head Zorik Gordon, has a giant new competitor as of
this morning: Amazon.com. According to Amazon.com, it has launched a
brand new service called Amazon Home Services, which will offer up
access to home service providers in New York City, Los Angeles, San
Francisco and Seattle, along with other areas. The new Amazon service
is a direct competitor to SERVIZ, which also offers up access,
purchase, and scheduling of home service providers.

Auspex Pharmaceuticals Acquired By Teva For $3.2 Billion

La Jolla-based biopharmaceuticals developer Auspex Pharmaceuticals has
agreed to be acquired by Israeli biotech firm Teva Pharmaceuticals, in
a deal worth $3.2 billion in cash. The two said that Teva will pay
$101.00 per shar in cash for Auspexx Pharmaceuticals. Auspex develops
drugs aimed at Huntington's disease, tardive dyskinesia, and Tourette
syndrome. Teva is being advised by Goldman, Sachs & Co. and Goodwin
Proctor LLP in the deal; Auspex is being advised by J.P. Morgan
Securities LLC and Cooley LLP.

MaxLinear Gets Brazilian Cert

Carlsbad-based radio frequency chip maker MaxLinear said today that it
has received a certification in Brazil, which gives it access to an
upcoming government subsidy program in that county. According to
MaxLinear, its MxL683 ISDB-T receiver has been been certified for
immunity to LTE interference, a requirement in Brazil, where LTE
uplink frequencies and digital television signals are immediately next
to each other--a high probability of interface. LTE in Brazil is at
703MHz, ISDB-T is at 698Mhz. MaxLinear said the testing was done at
Mackenzie Presbyterian University in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Factual Adds Thirteen New Partners

Los Angeles-based Factual has added thirteen new partners who are
working directly with businesses and brands to update their data in
Factual's giant database-in-the-sky of retail locations and
businesses. According to Factual, those trusted data providers have
access to ensure their data is represented accurately in Factual.
Among the new providers is LA's YP; other providers include
Connectivity ICE Portal, Local Market Launch, Localistico,
MetaLocator, Milestone Internet Marketing, NavAds, seoClarity, SIM
Partners, SweetIQ,uberall.com, and Vendasta.

Guidance Links EnCase With Dropbox

Pasadena-based Guidance Software, the developer of the EnCase
electronics discovery and digital forensics software, said today that
it has integrated its product with Dropbox for Business. The company
said the move will make it the first company with e-discovery
capabilities for Dropbox for Business customers. EnCase said the move
allows businesses to have visibility into employees' Dropbox accounts,
especially in the case of litigation or compliance requirements.

Shuttlerock Powers Yogi Surprise

Los Angeles-based Shuttlerock, which develops visual marketing
software, said that subscription yoga company Yogi Surprise has
selected the company to power their visual marketing efforts.
Financial impact of the deal was not disclosed. The companies said
that Shuttlerock's platform allows Yogi Surprise to share subscriber
photos on social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram and
Twitter. Shuttlerock raised its Series A and moved its headquarters to
LA in September.

Flywheel Drops Fares In LA, San Diego To $5 Until April 6th
----
On-demand, taxi app developer Flywheel, which has been in an intense
battle with Uber, Lyft, Sidecar and others in the LA market, said this
week that it will offer $5, flat rate rides on its service in Los
Angeles and San Diego until April 6th. LA and San Diego are two of the
five markets that Flywheel is trying to reach out to new customers,
along with Seattle, San Jose, and Sacramento. Flywheel said that its
offer will get riders from point A to point B without "waiting
endlessly and going out of their way to share a ride with someone
else" in the case of its competitors. Flywheel also bragged that it
does not do "surge pricing", the technique used by Uber that charges
more at peak hours for rides.

Superior Water Gets Funding From METRIX
----
Orange County-based water disinfection equipment and services company
Superior Water Technologies has received a funding round from venture
capital investor METRIX Capital Group, the two said Thursday. Size of
the equity funding was not disclosed. Superior Water services the
municipal water disinfection and treatment industry, including
pipeline chemical injection and mixing systems.
