DogVacay Expands Into Doggie Daycare

Santa Monica-based DogVacay, the online marketplace for pet sitting
services led by Aaron Hirschhorn, said Tuesday that it is expanding
into the doggie daycare market. DogVacay said it will let pet owners
find daytime pet watching services, to help care for pets when owners
are at work, school, or away fro home for an extended period of time

ZIRX Finds $30M To Expand Valet Parking Service
----
ZIRX, the on-demand valet parking service which launched into Los
Angeles in November, said today that it has raised $30M more to
continue on its expansion. The funding was led by Bessemer Venture
Partners, and also included Norwest Venture Partners and Trinity
Ventures, along with others. The company said it has now raised $36.M
in funding. ZIRX is based in San Francisco, and also offers its
services in Los Angeles, Seattle and Washington.

AssetAvenue Joins Real Estate Accelerator
----
Los Angeles-based AssetAvenue, the online, peer-to-peer lending site
focused on commercial real estate loans, said today that it has been
selected to participate in a real estate focused accelerator, backed
by the National Association of Realtors. The company said it was
selected to participate in the 2015 class of REach, a growth
technology accelerator program sponsored by Second Century Ventures,
the strategic investment arm of the National Association of Realtors
(NAR). AssetAvenue is led by David Manshoory. The company helps to
arrange bridge and other loans ranging from $250,000 to $25 million,
aimed at purchasing commercial real estate, including office
buildings, industrial properties, shopping centers and apartment
buildings.

Hollywood Software Buys Digital Cinema Systems, Inc.
----
Woodland Hills-based Hollywood Software, a developer of enterprise
software used by studios, independent movie distributors, and
exhibitors to run their distribution and exhibition businesses, said
it has acquired Digital Cinema Systems, Inc., a provider of motion
picture playback systems. Financial terms of the buy were not
disclosed.  Digital Cinema Systems develops the FilmStore, a digital
cinema playback solution.

Wallaby Rolls Apple Watch App
----
Pasadena-based < b>Wallaby Financial--which is now part of
Bankrate--said Tuesday that it has launched a new app for the Apple
Watch. Wallaby said the new app--Wallaby for Apple Watch--lets Apple
Watch users optimize the credit card rewards for each of their
purchases. The new app also helps users check on their credit card
purchases and see credit card recommendations. Wallaby is led by
Matthew Goldman.

Green Dot Gets Mobile Gelocation Patent
----
Pasadena-based Green Dot, the prepaid debit card provider, reported
Tuesday that it has been issued U.S. Patent No.  8,989,778, covering
secure and private location sharing for location-aware mobile
communication devices. Green Dot said the patent relates to its use of
geolocation for creating customized user experiences, as well as for
risk management and fraud prevention. The patent names Samuel H.
Altman, Nicholas T. Sivo, Mark Jacobstein, Brian R. Knapp, James F.
Potter, and Thomas B. Pernikoff as inventors, and was filed by Green
Dot way back in July of 2007. Green Dot was represented by Arent Fox
LLP in the patent filing.

Upfront Ventures Re-Ups On Appointment Booking Site MyTime

Los Angeles-based venture investor Upfront Ventures has lead another
round in San Francisco-based online appointment booking site MyTime,

Kareo Rolls Out Updated Software
----
Irvine-based medical practice management software developer Kareo, led
by Dan Rodrigues, said Tuesday that it has launched the next
generation of its cloud-based software for outsourced billing. The
company said its Kareo Medical Billing now supports both web and
mobile applications, adds customized reports, includes secure
messaging, and many other features. Pricing on the new product was not
announced. Kareo's investors include Greenspring Associates, OpenView
Venture Partners, Silicon Valley Bank, Stripes Group, Western
Technology Investment, as well as Uber founder Travis Kalanick.

Twigtale Finds $1M For Personalized, Therapeutic Books
----
Los Angeles-based startup Twigtale, a service which helps parents
create personalized books to help kids through everything from giving
up a pacifier to moving to a new home, said yesterday that it has
raised $1M in a seed funding round. The funding was led by HBS Angels
and the Tech Coast Angels, and also included Larry Paige and Lucy
Southworth, Anne Wojcicki, Wendi Murdoch and Ivanka Trump. Twigtale's
service uses expertly crafted, personalized books which the company
says "make each child the hero of his or her story" and cover such
challenging childhood transitions as moving, having a new sibling and
trips to the doctor.

CallFire Shifts Execs
----
Santa Monica-based CallFire, which offers up cloud-based text and
voice communications services, said today that it has shifted the
roles of two of its founders. The company said that TJ Thinakaran,
Co-Founder and COO, has become Chief Services Officer for the company,
and that Punit Shah, Co-Founder and CIO, will become Chief Product
Officer. The company said the changes will allow Thinakaran to
increase his focus on partner relationships, and will allow Shah to
expand beyond his current role in managing the company's internal
business intelligence and data warehouse to help in its product
development and strategy. CallFire is led by Ron Burr.

Disney Accelerator Connects Robot Startup, New Star Wars Movie
----
In one of the first concrete examples of the benefit of participating
in the local Disney Accelerator, one of the first companies to
participate in the TechStars driven program in Los Angeles--Sphero--is
apparently behind the cool, rolling robot, BB-8, which is heavily

April 22, Thousand Oaks -- High School Robotics Teams from Ventura County
FIRST is the largest national robotics competitions of its kind at the
high school level.  Students have only six weeks to design, build,
program, and test a robot to perform against a field of competitors.  The
game, the rules and the robot specifications are different every year.
This year, the game was Recycle Rush.  Recycle Rush is a recycling-themed
game played by two alliances of three robots each. During the 2.5 minute
match, robots score points by stacking totes on scoring platforms, capping
those stacks with recycling containers, and properly disposing of pool
