The funding came from GE Ventures and Frost Data Capital. Size of the funding was not announced. PingThings said the funding will go towards initial deployment of its product at major U.S. utilities, plus an expansion of its sales team. The company said it named Robert Cavanaugh, the former president of worldwide enterprise, SMB and government for Concur Technologies, to its board. Cavanaugh had served in his position at Concur since 1999 until its acquisition by SAP in 2014. He also has served at such companies as Seeker Software and Ceridian Corporation. Ciphrex Adds Cryptocurrency Expert As Advisor ---- San Diego-based Ciphrex, which is developing peer-to-peer payment network technology, has snagged a cybersecurity and cryptocurrency expert to its baord of advisors. The company said today that Michael Perklin, founder and president of the CryptoCurrency Certification Consortium (C4) and director of Bitcoin Alliance of Canada, has joined as an advisor. Ciphrex recently raised a small Series A funding round, and says it is in the midst of a Series B funding effort. Kofax Gets $500K Win ---- Irvine-based software developer Kofax reported a $500,000 win this morning, with what it says was a major U.S. insurance company. Kofax said that the insurance company will use its Kofax Mobile Capture™Platform, Kofax Mobile Capture SDK and Kofax Mobile ID products. Name of the customer was not announced. Kofax said the win is its second, major insurance company to adopt its platform so far this year. Kofax offers up document capture software used to digitize or eliminate paper in corporate processes. The company is in the process of being acquired by Lexmark. RadPad Raises $9M Rental Marketplace ---- Los Angeles-based RadPad, the online rental marketplace led by Jonathan Eppers, said this morning that it has raised $9M in a Series A funding. The funding was led by Altpoint Ventures, and also included Goldcrest Investments. RadPad said it has now raised a total of $13M in funding. RadPad offers up a map-focused service which helps renters search for apartments and homes for rent.
