According to the company, its new BrainOS provides support for common peripherals, runs on low cost computing hardware, and is aimed at making prototyping and development of robots easier for hobbyists and commercial developers. Brain Corporation also rolled out a robotic kit, The Geekbot Advanced, a two-wheeled robot with camera and gripper, which includes the company's OS running on the embedded Raspberry Pi 2 computer. The company said the kit is being sold through Trossen Robotics for $449.95. http://www.socaltech.com/brain_corporation_launches_robotics_os/s-0062048.html Aerovironment Passed Over For DARPA Project ---- Simi Valley-based unmanned aerial vehicle developer Aerovironment said Tuesday that the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), has decided not to go forward with a Phase III contract with the company. According to Aerovironment, DARPA, which had funded both a Phase I and II program to develop an unmanned aircraft system, did not select the company for the Phase III contract as part of the DARPA Tern program. DARPA's TERN (Tactically Exploitative Reconnaissance Node) had been intended to act as a combined strike and surveillance system for ships, with the robotic craft flying up to 900 miles from Navy ships on missions. Jukin Media Buys People Are Awesome ---- Los Angeles-based user generated content rights acquirer Jukin Media announced today that it has acquired the online video brand, People Are Awesome, which features online videos of people doing everything from wingsuit flying to cliff diving and more. Financial details of the buy were not announced. Jukin Media said People Are Awesome has more than 400,000 YouTube susbcribers, and more than 240 million views. People Are Awseom's co-founders, Jean Coffey and Daniel Rice, will join Jukin Media as employees, working out of an office in London.
