According to the companies, Microsoft will pay $196 per share in cash for LinkedIn. LinkedIn bought Goleta-based Lynda.com in April of last year, paying $1.5 billion for Lynda.com. It's unclear how the giant acquisition by Microsoft will affect Lynda.com's operations in Southern California. The Virtual Reality Company Finds $23M ---- Los Angeles-based The Virtual Reality Company, the startup which is developing a virtual reality version of The Martian, has raised $23M in a funding round, according to the company. The funding came from Hengxin Mobile Business Co, Ltd, and also included Metallica lead singer James Hetfield, Rothenberg Ventures, and Elementum Ventures. The startup, led by Guy Primus and co-founded by Robert Stromberg, is the producer of the Martian VR experience, which it is developing for 20th Century Fox Innovation Lab, which is a 20 minute interactive and immersive journey based on the film and book of the same name. The funding came from California Technology Ventures. As part of the funding, Alex Suh of CTV will join the company's board of directors. AiVita Biomedical is led by Dr. Hans Keirstead, and is focused on stem cell-based skin care product which helps address several signs of aging, and a novel cancer immunotherapy applicable to multiple solid tumor types. According to TP-LINK, the new router is aimed at the online gaming market, allowing avid gamers to stream 4K video content and games at the fastest available Wi-Fi speeds. TP-LINK says its new Archer C5400 routers have the ability to stream at up to 5400Mbps over one 2.4Ghz and two 5Ghz links, using MU-MIMO. The new, wireless router has an MSRP of $299.99. Masimo Receives Clearance On New Regional Oximiter ---- Irvine-based Masimo reports this morning that it has received FDA 510(k) clearance on a new device, its O3 regional oximetry device.The company said the device helps clinicians monitor cerebral oxygenation in situations in which pulse oximetry alone may not be fully indicative of the oxygen in the brain due to various factors, such as the type of clinical procedure being performed.
