Financial terms of the acquisition were not announced. Klik Technologies was based in New York, and had over 120 employees. CheckAlt--which is led by Shai Stern--said the acquisition will give it a "greatly expanded" customer base and solutions. The funding came from 21st Century Fox, Andreessen Horowitz, Raine Ventures, WME, Live Nation, Vice Media, Tribeca Enterprises, Annapurna Pictures, Legendary Pictures, and Freelands Ventures. As part of the funding, the startup said it has renamed itself to Within. The company develops virtual reality apps and immersive videos. http://www.socaltech.com/intelligence/index.php?action=showdeal&id=74779 Cast & Crew Entertainment Services Buys CAPS Payroll ---- Burbank-based Cast & Crew Entertainment Services, which provides payroll and production management services and technology to the entertainment industry, said it has acquired CAPS Payroll, a provider of payroll services for the commercial production, venues, music tours, live events, unscripted television and independent film markets. Financial terms of the acquisition were not announced, however, Cast & Crew said it is received "substantial additional equity" from its backer, private equity backer Silver Lake, as part of the buy. CAPS Payroll was based in Culver City. Cast & Crew said both of the companies have a focus on providing technology-enabled solutions to the market. Activision Blizzard To Debut Animated Television Series On Netflix ---- Santa Monica-based Activision Blizzard says that it is branching out its content to the world of streaming television with its first, original title out of its new television and film studio, Activision Blizzard Studios. According to Activision Blizzard, the studio has created Skylanders Academy, a new, animated series which will show on Netflix. The new series will be the first production by its studio, which is being led by Stacey Sher and Nick van Dyk. D-Link Debuts New, 180-Degree Wi-Fi Camera ---- Fountain Valley-based consumer electronics maker D-Link announced it has launched a new, 180 degree Wi-Fi camera, aimed at home surveillance. According to D-Link, its new DCS-8200LH camera provides an 180 degree, ultra-wide angel lens, 720p HD video quality, and a microSD slot, for local recording, and costs $139.99. The company also said its camera is compatible with IFTTT (If This Then That), the home automation provider which lets users connect device events with other software and apps--such as triggering an alert if motion is detected, or taking a snapshot of the home when a doorbell rings. Appetize Wins Customer In Minneapolis ---- Los Angeles-based Appetize, which develops tablet-based, enterprise Point-of-Sale hardware and software for venues, said on Thursday that it has scored a win in Minneapolis. The company said that the new, U.S. Bank Statdium in downtown Minneapolis will use the company's products as its exclusive, POS solution. The new stadium is home to the Minnesota Vikings. Financial impact of the win was not announced. Appetize said the install includes over 600 fixed and portable POS devices, for the new stadium's concessions, premium and portable areas. The new stadium is the site of the future, Super Bowl LII in 2018; the new stadium is expected to open in July. Greycroft Leads New Investment In Performance Horizon ---- Venture investment firm Greycroft Ventures, which has an office and is very active in Los Angeles, has led the investment in Performance Horizon, a San Francisco digital marketing software developer. Performance Horizon said that it raised $15.4M in its Series C funding, which was led by Greycroft Growth, along with Mithril and DN Capital. Performance Horizon develops digital marketing software which is used for partner and performance marketing. The company targets travel, financial services, and retail verticals with its software. http://www.socaltech.com/intelligence/index.php?action=showco&id=49637 Payoff Picks Up $46.7M More ---- Costa Mesa-based Payoff, a consumer finance startup which helps people consolidate and pay off credit card debt, has raised $46.7M more in a financing, according to a regulatory filing by the company. The filing indicates the funding is part of an ongoing $64.7M funding. It's unclear if the equity funding is part of an earlier, announced $250M multi-stage committment from alternative asset manager Marshall Wace, or a separate funding transaction.
