Hyperloop One Inks Partnership With Moscow On Russian Transport System
----
Los Angeles-based Hyperloop One, one of the local companies which is
looking to bring Elon Musk's idea of high speed transportation to
reality, reported today that it has signed a Memorandum of
Understanding (MOU) with the city of Moscow, to explore building
high-capacity, passenger systems in the Russian city. (More...)

Qualcomm Expands GNSS Support
----
San Diego-based Qualcomm said today that it is now broadly supporting the
European Galileo Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) across its
entire range of products. GNSS is the European equivalent of the GPS
systems, offering up global satellite positioning services. Qualcomm
says the GNSS support comes on top of existing support for the GPS,
GLONASS, BeiDou, QZSS, and SBAS satellite location services. Qualcomm
said the GNSS support is now available on its Qualcomm Snapdragon 800,
600, and 400 processors.

Blueprint Bio Raises $7.5M
----
Blueprint Bio a developer of biomarker technology for the personalized
medicine market, has raised $7.5M from Murrieta-based Forentis
Partners. Blueprint Bio has offices in Murrieta, along with
Philadelphia and Rochester, MN, at the University of Pennsylvania and
the Mayo Clinic. According to Forentis Partners, the funding is the
first funding out of its $50M, special purpose venture fund focused on
biotechnology, its Forentis Fund. Blueprint Bio is led by Matthew
Nunez.

Kite Pharma Opens New Facility In El Segundo
----
Santa Monica-based biopharmaceuticals developer Kite Pharma has opened
up a new, 43,500 square foot manufacturing facility in El Segundo, the
company said today, to manufacture its cancer immunotherapy products.
According to Kite Pharma, the new facility will support production of
its chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) and T-cell receptor (TCR) product
candidates for clinical trials, along with commercial launch of its
lead T-cell product candidate, KTE-C19. The company said the facility
is estimated to have the capacity to produce up to 5,000 patient
therapies per year, if approved by the FDA.

OSI Systems Acquires American Science and Engineering
----
Hawthorne-base OSI Systems, which develops electronics systems for the
homeland security, healthcare, and other markets, said this morning
that it has acquired American Science and Engineering, Inc. (AS&E), in
a deal worth approximately $187M. OSI said it would pay $37.00 per
share in cash for A&E, which makes backscatter X-ray inspection
equipment used for screening cargo, parcel, and personnel. OSI Systems
said it will fund the acquisition from an existing, $450M credit
facility. OSI Systems was advised by Citigroup and Roth Capital in the
deal, along with Latham & Watkins and Crowell & Moring.

iGulu Aims To Develop Smart Beer Brewing Machine
----
Los Angeles-based iGulu, a startup developing an automated, smart
craft beer brewing machine, says it has raised $701,416 in funding via
an Indiegogo campaign, for its development efforts. The company's
automated craft brewing machine is expected to be delivered in Q3,
according to the company. The company is led by CEO Shu Zhang; the
company is charging $549 for its devices in pre-order. The company's
operations and manufacturing are in China. The company competes
against smart beer brewing machine developer Picobrew.

Dell Software Acquired By Private Equity Firms Francisco, Elliott
----
Dell Software, the unit of computer giant Dell which includes a
sizeable chunk of employees in Aliso Viejo, has been acquired by
private equity firms Francisco Partners, along with Elliott
Management, the companies said this morning. Financial details of the
acquisition were not disclosed. A chunk of Dell Software is the former
Quest Software, which was based in Aliso Viejo and was acquired by
Dell back in 2012. Dell Software still lists a significant number of
open job and positions at its Aliso Viejo location. Dell acquired
Quest Software--which was founded by Vinny Smith--in an earlier effort
to diversify its business away from hardware and more into enterprise
IT software.
