How Kaleo Is Tackling Enterprise Knowledge Sharing

Phil Hui-Bon-Hoa, the CEO of El Segundo-based Kaleo
(www.kaleosoftware.com), is a serial entrepreneur who has previously
built and sold four companies, including one acquired by IFILM, and
another by Sun Microsystems. He's now hard at work at a new company,
Kaleo, which is tackling the enterprise, knowledge sharing market—and
already has an impressive list of Fortune 500 customers. We spoke with
Phil about his new company, which is backed by OMERS Ventures, Saturn
Partners, Karlin Ventures, Qualcomm Ventures, Double M Partners and
Greycroft Partners.

Belkin Opens First Bricks-and-Mortar Store, At LAX
----
Marina Del Rey-based consumer electronics accessory maker Belkin says
it has opened up its first ever, bricks-and-mortar store, located a
LAX Airport in Terminal 6. Belkin said the new store--being run in
conjunction with airport concessionaire Huddson Group--will offer up
its tablet and smartphone accessories, including chargers, cables,
screen protectors, and more.  Belkin said the Terminal 6 store comes
as part of a broader remodeling of that terminal at LAX this year, and
opened in May.

Wpromote Opens Up New Office In San Francisco
----
Los Angeles-based Wpromote, the provider of digital marketing services
to brands and companies, says it has opened up a new office in San
Francisco. According to the company, the office is the third for the
company, which is headquartered in El Segundo and also has an office
in Chicago. WPromote offers up search engine, mobile, and social
marketing for such clients as Papyrus, Zenni Optical, Z Gallerie and
Xero. The company said the expansion specifically will target
expansion in the healthcare and technology markets.

Geni Signs Up For DNA Testing
----
Burbank-based family tree software developer Geni--which is now part
of MyHeritage--said late Thursday afternoon that it has added DNA
testing to its service, letting its users test their DNA for a more
accurate family tree. According to Geni, the addition of DNA testing
will help by "separating fact from fiction" and let users confirm if,
indeed, family relationships are what they seem. Geni also said it
would use the DNA results to help for matching previously unknown
relatives. Geni said it will include three, different types of DNA
tests--Y-DNA, mtDNA (mitochondrial DNA), and autosomal DNA testing.
As part ofthe launch, Geni said it has tapped into partner Family Tree
DNA, to populate existing DNA information for more than 228,000 people
into its database.

Alorica Acquires Expert Global Solutions
----
Irvine-based business outsourcing provider Alorica said Thursday that
it has acquired Expert Global Solutions, Inc., a provider of
outsourced, customer service and financial collections services. EGS
was based in Plano, Texas. Financial terms of the deal were not
announced, however, Alorica said the acquisition will push the company
to a projected $2.4 billion in 2016 revenues, with 48,000 employees in
the U.S., 28,500 in the Philippines and 13,000 in Latin America.
Alorica says it now has a total of 92,000 employees in 147 locations
spread across 16 countries.

Motor Trend OnDemand Debuts On Xbox
----
Motor Trend OnDemand, the video-on-demand service run by Los
Angeles-based TEN: The Enthusiast Network, has made its debut on Xbox
One and Xbox 360, according to TEN. The service was already available
on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Roku, Android devices, plus the web. TEN,
which is led by Scott Dickey, said the service features more than
1,500 hours of original and live content, plus real time racing event
access. TEN owns the Motor Trend, Hot Rod, Surfer, GRINDTV, and
several other publications and websites.

Ignyta Raises $42M In Term Loan
----
San Diego-based precision medicine developer Ignyta said Thursday
afternoon that it has secured a new, $42M term loan facility. The loan
came from Silicon Valley Bank and Oxford Finance. The company said the
loan has an interest rate of Prime + 4.35%, and that the company has
interest only payments for twenty-four months, followed by an
amortization period of thirty-six months. According to the company, it
has initially drawn on $32M of that loan, with "substantially all" of
that loan going to repay a prior loan from Silicon Valley Bank; Ignyta
cannot draw on the additional, $10M of that loan until April 7, 2017,
if it meets certain conditions.

Reports: Tidal, Apple In Acquisition Talks
----
A report from the WSJ late Thursday said that Apple Computer is in
discussions with music service Tidal--founded by Jay-Z--to acquire the
company. No pricing details on the potential deal--which the Journal
said "may not result in a deal"--were released.

Woven Digital Takes $18M More In Funding
----
Los Angeles-based Woven Digital, which develops original video content
aimed at the pop culture and millennial male market, has raised $18.5M
in a Series B funding. The funding was led by WPP Ventures, along with
Institutional Venture Partners and Advancit Capital. The company said
the funding will go to scale its coverage of news, sports, and
entertainment.  Woven Digital, which is led by Colin Digiaro, runs
such brands as Uproxx, Hitfix, and BroBible.

ProducePay Harvests $2.5M
----
Los Angeles-based ProducePay, which develops a service to help farmers
better manage their cash flow, has raised $2.5M in a seed funding
round, the company said this week. The funding came from Menlo
Ventures, Arena Ventures, CoVenture, Red Bear Angels and Social
Leverage. ProducePay is led by Pablo Borquez.

BandwidthX Scores Strategic Investment From Orange Digital
----
Carlsbad-based BandwidthX, which provides an online marketplace for
third party, Wi-Fi networks--targeted at helping mobile operators
scale their cellular networks--said it has received a strategic
investment from Orange Digital. The size of the investment was not
announced by the company. BandwidthX's real-time marketpace lets
mobile operators buy up unused, Wi-Fi capacity from broadband Internet
service providers, helping them to offload the load on their mobile
data networks. Nicolas Demassiex, head of Orange Labs, has joined
BandwidthX's Advisory Board as part of the investment. s Pertti Visuri
is CEO of BandwidthX.

All Def Digital Gets $10M
----
Culver City-based All Def Digital, an urban youth programming media
brand co-founded by Sanjay Sharma and Russell Simmons, has raised $10M
in a Series B financing. The funding was led by Third Wave Digital
partners, and also included WPP Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz, along
with Nu Horizons, Greycroft Partners, eVentures and Advancit Capital.
All Def Digital said the funding will go towards original programming,
distribution, and brand marketing services. Third Wave Digital
Partners is the investment fund of Allen DeBevoise. All Def Digital
says it now has over 100 million fans following it across YouTube and
Facebook.
