j2 Global Buys Six Companies In Q2

Los Angeles-based j2 Global said this morning that it has acquired six
companies, all during Q2. j2 Global said it has acquired SMTP, a
provider of email marketing services; GameTrailers, a digital media
publisher; Publicaster, an email marketing company; Electronic
Vaulting Services, a backup services provider; Safebackup, another

REC Solar Targets Channel With Solar Power Financing
----
San Luis Obispo-based REC Solar, the developer of commercial solar
power systems, said it has expanded a channel partner program, as part
of a move to expand its commercial solar business. According to REC
Solar, the new program will offer up $225M in power purchase agreement
(PPA) funding from Duke Energy for commercial projects ranging from
50kW to 2MW in capacity. REC Solar said it has already launched the
program with solar installer Sungevity, a move that was announced in
April. The company said that traditionally, its been more difficult to
finance small to mid-sized commercial projects.
REC Solar split its residential and commercial businesses back in
2014, selling its residential business to Sunrun, and says it is now
backed by Duke Energy.

Teledyne Sells Printed Circuit Board Business
----
Thousand Oaks-based Teledyne Technologies said late last week that it
has completed the sale of the assets of its printed circuit technology
business (Teledyne PCT), to FTG Circuits. The deal was worth $9.3M in
cash. Teledyne PCT was based in Hudson, New Hampshire, and had focused
on design and manufacturing of rigid-flex printed circuit boards and
assemblies used in the defense, aerospace and oil and gas industries.
Teledyne said that business generated between $15.0M and $20.0M in
annual revenues for each of the last three years.

Ingenu Names EVP, CFO
----
San Diego-based Ingenu, a developer of machine-to-machine
communications technology, said today that it has named Dan Halvorson
as its new Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.
Halvorson has previously served as CFO of Novatel Wireless, DivX, and
OneRoof Energy, and also served at Dura Pharmaceutical and Alliance
Pharmaceuticals. Ingenu said it is developing a low-power, wide area
wireless network for the Internet-of-Things (IoT) market; the company
said its team previously has served at Verizon and Qualcomm, among
other companies.

Resonant Buys Swiss Company
----
Goleta-based radio frequency filtering technology developer Resonant
has acquired a Swiss company, GVR Trade SA, which provides design and
consultation on Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) and Bulk Acoustic Wave
(BAW) devices. The company said it paid $1.1M in stock and cash for
GVR Trade, which was owned by Dr. Victor Plessky. Plessky joins the
company as Director of Engineering, as will GVR Trade SA's other key
technical staff. Resonant said that it has been working with GVR since
2008, collaborating in development of a key components of its
products.

OSI Systems Gets $8M Contract
----
Hawthorne-based OSI Systems reports this morning that its security
division, Rapidscan Systems, has received an $8M contract, for
multiple units of its Rapidscan Systems RTT 110 explosives detection
systems. The company said the order came from an un-named, major
international airport. The company's systems are used for high
resolution, 3D inspection of baggage and air cargo.

SpaceX Opening Office In Orange County
----
Hawthorne-based SpaceX is opening up a new office in Orange County, in
what looks to be an attempt to tap into the area's deep depth of
technical talent. According to the OC Register, SpaceX has leased just
under 8,000 feet of office space in Irvine, and now is listing jobs
for engineering positions in the location, including engineers in the
areas of RF integrated circuits and ASIC design. Orange County has a
large pool of engineers with similar design experience, drawn from
such giants as Broadcom and others in the semiconductor industry.
