According to Avata Intelligence, the company is now applying its software to the areas of public safety & infrastructure, defense, healthcare, global awareness and social impact. Avata is led by Zareh Baghdasarian, and is a spinout of the University of Southern California. Media.net Acquired For $900M ---- Media.net, an ad-tech company which has offices in Los Angeles, said over the weekend that it has been acquired for $900M by a Chinese consortium led by Starbuster TMT Investments and Beijing Miteno Communication Technology Co. Ltd.. Media.net is headquartered in Dubai, with U.S. headquarters in New York. The company said it has more than 800 employees split across New York, Los Angeles, Dubai, Zurich, Mumbai and Bangalore. The company said the acquisition is the first step to becoming part of Beijing-based Miteno. Trade Desk Files For IPO ---- Ventura-based Trade Desk has filed for an IPO, saying that it is looking to raised up to $86.25M on an IPO on the NASDAQ Global Market. The company says it has filed to trade as TTD. The advertising technology company is led by Jeff Green. The IPO is being underwritten by Citigroup, Jefferies, RBC Capital Markets, Needham & Company, and Raymond James. The Trade Desk is venture backed by IA Ventures, Founder Collective, Wellington Management, and Highwind, among others. The IPO filing is a huge win for the City of Ventura, and in particular its Ventura Ventures startup incubator, where The Trade Desk got its start. The funding comes from Acacia Research. According to Veritone, the $50M in working capital includes an initial $20M convertible investment, and contingent investment of $30M based on milestones. Veritone is led by Chad Steelberg, who is best known for selling one of his prior companies, dMarc Broadcasting, to Google. Reliant said it will start offering up a smart, Wi-Fi Doorbell Camera to its customers, which lets users unlock and lock doors, record live video, two way audio, and more. Reliant's Wi-Fi doorbell is based on Skybell's current products.
