(More...) http://www.socaltech.com/intelligence/?action=showdeal&id=78065 Comcast Ventures Sets Up Shop In Santa Monica ---- Comcast Ventures, the venture capital arm of Comcast Corporation, announced this morning that it has opened up an office in Santa Monica, and hired on Dinesh Moorjani as Managing Director in the new office. Moorjani was previously Executive-in-Residence at Warburg Pincus, and also was founder and CEO of Hatch Labs. According to Comcast, Moorjani helped co-found Tinder out of Hatch Labs, and also has served at IAC/InteractiveCorp and Samsung Electronics. Moorjani also serves as adjunct professor at the University of Southern California (USC) and is a faculty advisor at UCLA's Anderson School of Management. Comcast Ventures says Moorjani will be seeking to make investments in various sectors, including data and business intelligence, marketplaces and social networks. KLiP Launches Weatherproof Case For Raspberry Pi, Arduino ---- Santa Barbara-based startup KLiP Industries said this morning that it has launched its first product, a weatherproof case for the popular Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and BeagleBone embedded computers. According to KLiP, it has developed a weatherproof, IP67 rated enclosure system which can handle the RPi or other single board computers, as well as two additional expansion boards and shields, and is intended to support deployment of IoT solutions into the real world. The new, weatherproof boxes include support for conduit fittings and various cable glands, a machine aluminum plate for heat dissipation, and other features. KLiP said its product, the Rubicon Launch edition Kit, will cost $35 and ship on November 15th. Rao as its new Chief Financial Officer. Rao was previously at MaxLinear, serving as an executive in the finance area, and also has served at Broadcom and PRTM. He got his start in the engineering side of the business at Rockwell International and Conexant Systems, according to Enevate. Enevate is venture backed by Mission Ventures, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Tsing Capital, Infinite Potential Technologies, Presidio Ventures/Sumitomo, and CEC Capital. Social Reality Sets Kathy Ireland As Branding Advisor ---- Los Angeles-based Internet advertising company Social Reality announced this morning that it has named Kathy Ireland as its new Chief Branding Advisor. According to the firm, Ireland will also help the company link with other executives in the media, entertainment and advertising industries to serve on an Advisory Board. Ireland is head of the lifestyle brand kathy ireland Worldwide, which Social Reality said had sales in the excess of $2.5 billion in 2012. Razer Acquires THX ---- Carlsbad-based gaming accessories maker Razer said on Monday that it has acquired surround processing technology developer THX. Financial terms of the acquisition were not announced. THX--which was founded by George Lucas--will continue to operate as a separate brand and business. Razer said the acquisition would extend its brand into broader areas of entertainment. The acquisition is the second in the surround sound and sound processing area in the last month; Calabasas-based DTS was acquired in September by Tessera Technologies. BlackLine Systems Sets Estimated IPO Pricing Range ---- Woodland Hills-based accounting software maker BlackLine Systems has moved one step closer to its IPO, saying Monday morning in a regulatory filing that it is expecting its IPO to price at between $13.00 and $15.00 per share. BlackLine, which was founded and is led by CEO Therese Tucker, is selling 8,600,000 shares of its common stock, and intends to list on the NASDAQ Global Select Market as BL. BlackLine is venture backed by Silver Lake Sumeru and ICONIQ. Tucker is the former CTO at SunGard Treasury Systems, and got her start as a software programmer years ago working on financial applications. Hong was previously co-founder of Dropoff, an Austin, Texas startup providing same day delivery for businesses. Prior to that, he was Chief Marketing Officer at Fandango. According to HelloTech, Hong will ofersee finance, marketing, operations, product development, and technology operations for the company. HelloTech taps into an on-demand workforce, of mostly college students, who help provide in-home technology support.
