PeerStreet Raises $15M For Real Estate Loan Marketplace
----
Los Angeles-based PeerStreet, a startup which operates a marketplace
for investing in real estate backed loans, has raised $15M in a Series
A funding round. The funding was led by Andreessen Horowitz, and also
included The Kaiser Family Foundation, Rembrandt Venture Partners,
Montage Ventures and others. Alex Rampell of Andreessen Horowitz joins
the company's board with the funding.  Brew Johnson is the CEO and
co-founder of PeerStreet. The company also has previously raised
funding from Michael Burry of Scion Asset Management; Adam Nash,
former CEO of Wealthfront; Toba Capital; LeFrak and others. PeerStreet
was co-founded by Johnson and Brett Crosby, who founded Urchin
Software (which was acquired by Google).

Silicon Valley Bank Opens Startup Outlook Survey

Silicon Valley Bank, which provides banking services, loans, and other
financial products to many startups in Southern California, has opened
up its annual Startup Outlook Survey, according to the company this

Spireon Names Hardware VP
----
Irvine-based telematics equipment developer Spireon announced this
morning that it has named Ed Suski as its new Vice President of
Hardware Engineering. Suski has previously served at General Electric
and United Technologies Corporation, serving as Chief Technology
Officer at various divisions at the companies.  He also has served at
such companies as Acer, Gateway, eMachines, Packard Bell, Samsung and
AST Computer. Suski reports to Spireon CTO Rick Gruenhagen.

Qualcomm Backs M87 To Improve Access To Wireless Networks
----
San Diego-based Qualcomm is one of the backers in a startup which is
developing technology to create a network of peer-to-peer, wireless
devices, to help improve access for phones in poor coverage areas.
Seattle-based M87 said it raised $5M in a funding round, which was led
by Madrona Venture Group, and also included Qualcomm Ventures and
Trilogy Equity Partners. Cole Brodman, the former Technology and
Innovation Chief and CMO of T-Mobile, and investor at Trilogy Equity,
is the company's new CEO.

OC Tech Alliances Set To Become Part Of OCTANe
----
The OC Tech Alliance, one of the groups supporting the technology
industry in Orange County, says it will become part of another local
industry group, OCTANe, effective December 31st. The two--who had
announced their intent to merge in September--will be merging their
various events and activities. OC Tech Alliance said OCTANe will
continue on with its 2017 High-Tech Innovation Awards, the members
only CEO Round Table, and its other various "Round Tables" which serve
the community. As part of the merger, current members of the OC Tech
Alliance must re-join and become an OCTANe member, according to the
group. The OC Tech Alliance had been headed by CEO Peter Craig and the
events had been run by Event Program Manager Brenda Scialdone.

Snapchat's Spectacles Vending Machine Back In LA, On Santa Monica Pier
----
In a sign that, perhaps, it will not be as difficult to get Snapchat's
new Spectacles sunglasses for those of us in Los Angeles, the Snapbot
vending machine--the only way to buy Snapchat's new combined
sunglasses/camera--has appeared on the Santa Monica Pier Thursday
morning. The Snapbot had debuted just a few miles down the road, in
Venice, then took a trip out to Tulsa, Oklahoma on Tuesday.

EDF Renewable Energy Wins 150 Megawatt Wind Project
----
San Diego-based renewable energy developer EDF Renewable Energy and
Otter Tail Power Company announced Thursday morning that the two are
working together on a 150 megawatt (MW) wind project in North Dakota.
The two said that EDF RE will build the 150MW Merricourt Wind Project,
which will be purchased by Otter Tail Power Company upon completion.
The deal includes 75 wind turbines, which will be erected on 13,700
ares near Edgeley, North Dakota. The two said the wind farm will power
approximately 65,000 homes in Otter Tail Power Company's service
territory, and bring the power company's wind mix to nearly 28
percent.
