Scopely Gets $60M For Expansion, Acquisitions
----
Los Angeles-based mobile gaming developer Scopely has raised $60M in a new
funding, the company announced on Thursday, in a round led by Revolution
Growth. The round also included Greenspring Associates, Sands Capital
Ventures, Cross Creek Advisors, and Pritzker Group Venture Capital. As part
of the funding, Donn Davis of Revolution Growth will join the company's
board. Revolution Growth is the venture investment firm led by AOL execs
Steve Case, Donn Davis, and Ted Leonsis. According to Scopely, the new
funding will go towards strategic investments, commercial partners, and
acquisitions. Scopely is led by Walter Driver. The company says it has more
than 125 million players for its mobile games. Scopely has now raised more
than $162.0M in total funding.

Trace3 Gets Strategic Investment

Irvine-based Trace3, an IT solutions provider which focuses on medium- and
large- enterprise clients, has scored a strategic investment from H.I.G
Capital, H.I.G. said on Thursday morning. Size of the investment round was
not announced. Trace3 was founded in 2002, and has around 250 engineers
providing IT consulting services. Trace3 founder Hayes Drumright will
continue to serve on the company's board, according to H.I.G. Capital, and
will remain a "significant" shareholder in the company.

Alteryx's Yhat Deal Includes $5M In Stock
----
Irvine-based Alteryx has issued roughly $5.0M in equity, as part of the
acquisition of New York-based Yhat, according to a regulatory filing by the
firm this week. Alteryx announced its acquisition of Yhat last week,
without any financial details. A regulatory filing indicates that
$4,999,744 in equity was issued related to a merger, acquisition, or
exchange offer; it's unclear if the deal also included cash in addition to
stock. Yhat developed data science software, and was based in New York.

SpaceX Aiming To Return Rockets Right Back To Launch Pad
----
Hawthorne-based rocket developer SpaceX is hoping to put its returned
rockets back precisely on their launch pads, according to a report
Thursday. The report, citing a paper published by Elon Musk, quotes Musk
saying that the firm is getting "closer to the bull's eye". Returning those
rockets to the launchpad directly enable rapid turnaround in getting those

EDF Renewable Energy Sells Half Of Oklahoma Wind Project
----
San Diego-based renewable energy developer EDF Renewable Energy announced
early Friday moring that it has sold off 50 percent of the Great Western
Wind Project, a 225 megawatt wind energy project it is developing in
Oklahoma for Google. Financial details of that sale were not announced. The
company said the stake goes to Alliant Energy Corporation, which will pay
cash for its 50% equity stake. EDF RE said it will continue to provide
management services, with EDF Renewable Services providing operations and
maintenance services and monitoring of the project. All of the electricity
being generated by the wind turbines at the Great Western Wind project is
being provided to Google, under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

Newegg Plans Major Global Expansion
----
Los Angeles-based online electronics retailer Newegg says it is planning a
major, global expansion worldwide, with plans to expand in the Asia
Pacific, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East regions. According to
Newegg, once that expansion is complete, it will reach customers in a total
of 50 countries. NewEgg said the big new global expansion push also
includes an effort to recruit aspiring e-commerce sellers across the globe,
who it says it will tap to offer up local sellers with country-specific
merchandise.

TeleSign Rolls Out iOS User Verification SDK
----
Los Angeles-based TeleSign announced on Thursday that it has launched a new
software development kit (SDK) for iOS, which allows mobile app developers
to streamline account verification and identity assurance. TeleSign said
its App Verify for iOS SDK helps assist with increasing conversions and
providing identity assurance, embedding a phone number verification within
those mobile apps. TeleSign's SDK helps automate phone number verification,
can be branded to a mobile app, and also includes security features to help
keep hackers from reverse engineering the SDK for bulk account creation.
TeleSign did not say how much it costs to embed those features into mobile
apps using the SDK.

TuSimple Aims At Self Driving Vehicle Market

San Diego- and Beijing-based TuSimple, a startup developing autonomous
driving technology, says it has received a permit from the California
Department of Motor Vehicles to test autonomous driving vehicles on the

Cylance Names Sales, Product Execs
----
Irvine-based antivirus software developer Cylance said on Thursday that it
has named two new executives at the firm, to help it with global growth.
Cylance said it has named Rahul Kashyap as Chief Product Officer and John
Giacomini as Executive Vice President, Global Sales. Kashyap was previously
Executive Vice President of Products at Bromium, and led worldwide threat
research at McAfee Labs; Giacomini was most recently Executive Vice
President, Worldwide Sales at Forcepoint (formerly Websense), and also
served at Blue Coat Systems and Network Catalyst.

Belkin, D-Link, Linksys On Compromised CIA Router List
----
Routers from Playa Del Rey-based Belkin and subsidiary Linksys, as well as
Fountain Valley-based D-Link, have appeared on a new list of Internet
routers which have been compromised by the Central Intelligence Agency
