The Series A funding was led by IA Capital, and also included Menlo Ventures, FF Venture Capital, Nationwide Ventures, Assurant and AmTrust. SURE's mobile app lets users purchase flight, baggage, renters, pet, wedding and smartphone insurance, all without leaving the app. SURE said the funding will go towards product development, user acquisition, marketing, and hiring. According to Episona, the funding came from the Pasadena Angeles, as well as other high-net worth individuals from Pasadena and San Francisco. Episona develops an epigenetic test which examines DNA for risk factors related to male factor fertility and poor embryo quality. Episona has been offering up its test since October of 2016. The company is led by Dr. Alan Horsager. The company said the new funds go towards commercial expansion of its product, increase sales and marketing, and for further technology development. The company said its test is currently available in approximately two dozen fertility clinics in 12 states and Canada. http://www.socaltech.com/intelligence/index.php?action=showdeal&id=84651 SmartLabs Acquired By Richmond Capital Partners, Raises $7.3M ---- Irvine-based SmartLabs, the parent company of smart home controller brand Insteon and home automation e-commerce site Smarthome, has been acquired by private investment firm Richmond Capital Partners. Financial terms of the acquisition were not announced, however, Richmond Capital Partners said it is investing $7.3M in the company, which will remain headquartered in Irvine. SmartLabs will open up a new, software development office in Seattle as part of the acquisition and investment. According to the company, it has added a new, 40,000 square foot R&D center in Irvine, the fifth building it has in California, to expand its R&D capability. The company said the additional building brings its total amount of space at its Irvine headquarters to over 140,000 square feet. Irvine Scientific said it built the new facility as a result of increased customer demand for its products. Datum Security Acquired By Prevalent ---- Altadena, California-based Datum Security, a developer of third party risk management and cyber threat assessment services, has been acquired by New Jersey-based Prevalent, the two companies announced on Tuesday. Financial terms of the acquisition were not announced. Prevalent said the acquisition will help small and medium-sized business with third party risk validation. Jonathan Niednagel is founder and CEO of Datum Security. Name of the investors in the company were not announced. See Jane Go currently offers it service in Orange County and Long Beach, with plans to expand to the rest of Southern California using the funding. The funding came from August Capital, Brand Foundry, New Enterprise Associates (NEA), plus angels Hugo Barra, Ali Partovi, Philip Krim and Matt Mullenweg. Yumi says it offers up baby food delivery starting at $50 a week. The company says all of its baby food is "organic, plant-based and low in total sugar." The funding came from angel investors, including athletes and executives from the sports and media world. Name of those angels was not announced. Hurdl makes the PIXL, a wearable lighted device which allows participants at concerts and other events to become part of the show, coordinated with those live events. The company uses those wearables to also collect and gain more insight into attendees of those live events.
