TDK Ventures, the venture investment arm of TDK Corporation, has made an
investment in Los Angeles-based Wheels, the last-mile, on-demand, electric
bicycle company led by Josh Viner. According to TDK Ventures, the
investment came as part of the recently announced funding round led by DBL
Partners. TDK said Wheel will leverage its "deep expertise in electronics
and sustainability energy solutions" as well as its global reach to expand

*Labrador Systems Finds $2M For Elder Care Robots*

Los Angeles-based Labrador Systems, a new startup developing assistive
robots for helping with home health and assistive living, has raised $2M in
a pre-seed funding round. The funding was led by SOSV, and its hardware
accelerator HAX, along with Centrica Hive, Amazon's Alexa Fund, iRobot

funding will go towards expansion of its platform and for pilot studies

*ZPower Partners With Wireless Charging Developer*

Camarillo-based battery technology developer ZPower, which develops high
density, silver-zinc microbattery technology, has teamed up with wireless
charging systems developer Energous, to develop a wireless charging systems
for ZPower's rechargeable microbatteries. Financial details of the

are being used in the hearing aid, medical, military/defense and consumer

*SpaceX Plans Another 30,000 Starlink Satellites*

Hawthorne-based SpaceX has applied to deploy an additional 30,000 Starlink
satellites, in addition to an existing 12,000 it has already gotten
approval for from the Federal Communications Communications (FCC). The
network of low-earth orbit satellites are intended to provide broadband for

San Diego-based last mile transportation startup Wheels, which offers up
on-demand bicycles, has raised $50M in a new round of funding, the company
said today. The funding was led by DBL Partners. The startup competes
against Bird, Lime, Lyft, JUMP and others in the last mile transportation
and on-demand market, but differentiates itself by offering up electric
powered bicycles, rather than scooters, to its users. According to the

for auto dealers and consumers, has launched its very own,
subscription-based, "flexible car usage" service it is calling Turn, the
