Maybe what I'm trying to do is not possible - but I'll ask anyway.
I have a large house, 1 DSL & 1 cable modem. Both are connected to
wireless access points, one linksys, one apple. In my garage I have a XP
laptop, with wireless usb, that can connect to either secured network, and
upload weather info to a webpage. Works just fine, if one connection
dies, it switches to other connection seamlessly.

I've now got a new windspeed indicator, that gets power over ethernet,
and I've hooked it to a new router in the garage, and verified it works
OK. What I need to do is to get the windspeed indicator talking to the
weather laptop, preferably by the laptop's ethernet connector, or thru a
router/hub. I need a way to assign it an address via DCHP. I have a
spare linksys wrt54gl I could configure as a repeater, but that only
covers 1 secure network, won't switch if network dies. I tried ICS
(internet connection sharing) on the laptop, but that fires up a static IP
(I think) that neither router likes, (Network drive box uses that SAME
address already) If I connect WRT54GL via ethernet cable to laptop, it
seems to kill the usb wireless, where I was getting my connections.

Any suggestions on repeater s/w that can hunt for several AP's and use
the best one ? I've investigated mesh, tried ICS, tried XP's connection
Bridge, and nothing seems to be the answer, or am I overlooking something
right in front of my nose. I'd thought I could have 2 active networks on
my laptop, one via USB wireless to available wireless router, and another
one via hardwired router, to the windspeed indicator, but I can't seem to
get the ICS/Bridge idea to work.
