Joe, can you explain more on what you mean by that:

1. It is capable of allowing  a pass through? 

2. What is the difference between pass through and creating a tunnel? explain. 

3. I have yet to find the right software to use, can you suggest one? 

to be clear, i have dsl access at home and we have dsl at work.  i have windows 2000 adv. server at work and  a windows 2000 on my laptop at home. 

4. What exactly do i set on my linksys router at work?

5. What software do i run  on the server at work? how do i set that up?

6. What do i set on the  SMC Barricaide at home?

7. Do i run software on the laptop at home? how do i set that up?

The befsr41 is capable of passing thru a vpn connection. What vpn client
software are you planning to use? In order to get the befsr41 to do a vpn
connection, you need to have a vpn client, this router doesnt have a vpn
feature, like the befsx41 and befvp41 vpn routers.

Can some one explain more on how to set up a VPN on my two routers. i have
a LINKSYS BEFSR41 and a SMC BARRICADE SMC7004AWBR. I HAVE LOOKED UP BOTH
ROUTERS FROM THEIR RESPECTED MANUFACTORS AND THEY ARE BOTH CAPABLE OF VPN
TUNNEL.

Can anyone help me figure this out!!
