That is a nice write-up. To get my Orinoco and Kismet working on Red
Hat 8.0, all I basically had to do was download the more recent Orinoco
driver (0.13 instead of 0.11 packaged with Red Hat), patch it, make, and
install.
But is it really working? I haven't taken it on the road yet, so I wonder
if my local situation is sufficient to tell. Normally, the laptop runs
via the Orinoco card to a local access point. It's the only client. So
I start kismet_monitor and it reports the card went into promiscuous mode
just fine. Then I start kismet and it doesn't show my own network. Huh?
I know the laptop is no longer a client, but the access point is still
working, right? Shouldn't I be able to see it?
In normal operation, the card uses WEP. Do I have to do something to
disable that before using kismet? That wouldn't seem right.
