a question of handoff/handshake speeds... what if you had two APs separated by a mile of road... The two APs have yagi antennas pointed at each other, They have a clear line of sight, they are running on different channels. No encryption. No negative radio interference.
A person in a car with appropriate wifi gear is listening to a streaming internet radio station at point A. He leaves point A for point B at 65 mph. As his card transitions from one AP to the next, will he experience a distracting interruption in his internet radio stream? I am hoping that most wifi cards have a mode where they will automatically connect to the AP with the strongest signal. I just wonder how fast a handoff can be made. All thoughts on the issue are welcome :-) thanks Chris White
