These are good products, I've used them in other settings.

But the new Tivo (Series 2) does not have an Ethernet port, nor does it have
a PCI slot to add an ethernet adapter. Tivo is promoting the easy broadband
setup by using off-the-shelf USB adapters.

Raiding many stores and returning unused products is an unusual workaround.
And I wouldn't call it easy until you know that's what you need to do.

You can also use an Ethernet wireless thingie that needs no driver
support...

Dlink makes the $65 http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=45
or
Linksys make the $90
http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?grid=33&scid=36&prid=432

I have successfully used the DLink with both the TIVO and the Turtle Beach
Audiotron.
