HI I am a new member to this discussion list and I was wondering what the probability of me picking up signal from a wifi radio at my local starbucks 1.5 blocks away. So far my hardware consists of Ornico Silver and linksys wep 11, an 8dbi omni and 25 dbi parabolic 120 deg.
My main quesiton is, if i hook up my 8dbi to an 200mw pcmica wifi card, is there a shot of reaching my local star bucks wifi hot pot about 1.5 blocks away. What if i hook up an 25dbi parabolic antenna. Is there any equipment out there that can reach it that i can buy under $500? The 200mw card this is hypothetical, I thought i should ask some people before i go buy it who have experience with wifi equipment. I might get a Line of Sight from my roof, as i am on a bit of a hill and living in 2 stories apartment. I dont know what kind of equipment starbucks uses, but i assuming they provide 100-300 meter range for there equipment. thanks
