[SOCALWUG] Verizon WiFi

Does anyone know what Verizon's plan is for WiFi in SoCal?
I was in NYC last week, and used their free service (free for all
Verizon DSL and dialup subscribers).  The service is great, and the
coverage in Manhattan is unreal.  They have added an access point at
every payphone in the city.
Any insight into their plans in LA area is appreciated...
