On my Garman Etrex Vista, I've needed to tell it that I've changed
location so it will do a new search. I can also move a pointer in the
display to the approximate location where I'm standing and it will
re-search for the satellites.

I believe that GPS uses 1.5GHz.

Which technology uses 1.2GHz in Hong Kong? Is this used for video?

Cell Phones, cordless phone, wireless networking, a bunch of stuff is 1.2.  1.2 and 1.5 are close enough that the noise form the 1.2 can adversly effect the 1.5 reception.  Not saying that is what happened, but it might be possible.

Did you re init the unit when you were in China?
