Tim,

Below the concrete support beam sounds perfectly OK and yes,
a patch can be mounted against a wall. Of course, the patch has a
directional
radiation pattern so it isn't typically radiating off the back and  into
the wall.
Once in a while, a patch (or panel) antenna mounted flat against a large
metal
wall will exhibit anomolous behavior and need to be moved a few feet off

(in front of) the wall.
