Ahh.. 98se L3 issues. Fun! What AP's are the school using - if they don't
mind telling?

It might be an issue with 98se & archaic DHCP w/ the vendor AP. Yes, DHCP
has it's moments
but.. there's better stuff out there.. not commercially yet.. Anyways,
enough plugging...

Logic says this card (including drivers) & the msft IP stack worked fine in
other "spots" so
likely it is the L3 negotiation that is failing - either on the client or
the AP.. this is
just a wild rant of mine but may be worthy for you to hunt down. All
questions are good.

You *shouldn't have to rebuild your OS to get the net working though.. I'm
sorry you had to
do that...

<omit below steps - I someone unknowingly seemed to type>
1. Rip out networking - everything.
2. Reboot once with no net/nic @ all.
3. do a normal Shutdown.
4. Plug in card.
5. Restart.
6. Let 98se do its dance..
7. Restart.
8. Check signal strength
9.. Wait for the archaic DHCP discovery
10. Open DOS prompt
#. Type winipcfg /all
#. Check the -wire net adapter for school IP info. whatever priv net are
they are peddling...
#. try to "fine tune" the net settings... no logon, file/printer sharing,
wins, etc..
#. waaiit... if you know the local link IP info.. you could just pick a
random last octet.. hmmm.. give that
a try too.. if you really need net access... ask a buddy - if there is 1 @
your school, geesh - for their settings.

If all else fails - "unplug" & doodle. ;-)

Good luck!

Brian

*Thanx for the help.
*
* As for number 1, I have Fdisk'ed, partitioned, formated,
*and reinstalled windows, and it continues to occur. I will
*try and find another copy of windows 98SE, so I can try that
*again, although probably just re install them like you suggested.
*
* As for number 2, they claim, and the site says, there is
*no encryption. The only filtering they are using is MAC
*filtering. And again, they have confirmed time and time again
*that the MAC addresses are correct.
*
* Again, thanx for the information, and please, keep it coming.
