As for no gain, I assume that you mean they provide 0dBi, which is true.
However quick question: how many mW in 0 dBm, 1dBm and 2dBm?
Now remember that ye olde standard rubber duckie on that AP you got at Fry's (or even from Cisco) has a 2.15dBi antenna on it. This is about 65% more EIRP than a 0dBi antenna, but, in the great scheme of things, not all that much.
