After you have done that, you can install the AP's and them make a final assessment.

Whats wrong with using Ekahau. You can use a GPS mouse.....
Airmagnet Suveyor would also be a good choice.

Hello,
I have been using Ekahau for our indoor site survey and it's a pretty decent tool. I'm wondering is there any software in the market for doing community wireless site survey where I can have buildings, trees (with app. Height) and other things that might present in a community. I know Verizon has one but it's their proprietary software.
