A couple of reasons would be to allow for more verbose updates on Facebook
due to their longer character limit, as well as the ability to tag other
people/organisation's Facebook pages (instead of their Twitter handles).
There are slightly different audiences on the two platforms as well, though
I don't know if this plays much of a role in the difference in messages.
