Thanks Peter.

This did not directly apply to my situation, but pointed me in the right direction and I have now solved my problem - thank you.

The trouble with associating *.sxw, *.sxc, *.sxd, etc, files with OOo was that none of these extensions were listed under Tools>Folder Options> File types, so One could not globally associate one of these extensions with the OOo software. However, I added these extensions to the list using the "New" button and then associated them with OOo and it seems to have made the change globally.

Once again, many thanks, James

PS - any ideas on how the OOo files became disassociated with the OOo program? Could it be because I installed M$ anti-spyware software? Nothing much else has changed on my computer, recently.

Possibly. I am very slowly becoming convinced that MS knows when you have free programs on your computer and secretly does things to mess them up.

OOC: Why are you using MS spyware when Ad-Adaware is so free and so not MS?

Glad I could help.
