Daniel,
I just received the constitutional project. Would you mind giving me the article where they mention the term ?

Hi all,

Could someone help me understand what a social market is? It seems to be a contenious issue in France, for the upcomming vote on the EU constitution. Though the EU constitution has the term "social market" in it, there seems to be concern in France that it'll create an Anglo-Saxon style "free market".

Now, from bits and pieces I've read, I think I have a vague idea of how "free market" and "social market" compare and contrast. It appears that a social market pays more attention to a high standard of living in the population (low unemployment, welfare, etc) and a "free market" has fewer rules. But this is mostly guessing on my part.

I'd be interested to hear an explanation from someone in the know.
