You might find it useful to read the "tutorial" on working with PubSub.com's JEP-0060 service. It can be retrieved from Archive.org at: http://web.archive.org/web/20050901044459/www.pubsub.com/bobwyman/pubsub_xmpp.html Also, see section "13.19 Content-Based Pubsub Systems" in the XEP-0060 spec for one way of doing content-based subscriptions.
