I think the 1958 National Defense Education Act has more to do with the concentration of power and wealth than economic forces separate from education. We have prepared for the New World Order Bush proudly announces we are, and this is the same military-industrial complex we defended our democracy against in the second war world.
Public education is like a genie in a bottle. The defined purpose is the wish and the students are the genie. The 1958 Act replaced our liberal, domestic education with the model of Germany's education for technology for military and industrial purpose. This is what made political and social change possible, and if we don't immediately do something about this education, we have fought every war for nothing, because we are what we defended our democracy against. The antisemitism might be related to economic issues, but isn't it about as important as the racism issue. What about political ideology and what made our democracy different from fascism?
