Randy, I have no idea what a bracketless sata is. Are you running sata via a PCI card? Or are you using a newer 5501 that has sata? 4801s have only one EIDE connector (and a CF connector) on the board. Does combios show any disks during POST?. You should see something like this at boot:

If your using a 5501 I have no experience with those yet. combios can also not read disk geometry correctly with some disks in my experience. Installing an OS via the Soekris (using NFS or something) might be a work around if the bios does not like your disk for some reason.
