Similar problem here. Setup is a Net5501 (about 3 weeks old), with a
Fujitsu 80GB disk mounted right in the case (I made my own disk
mounting kit, by using the cable from the 4801 kit, and cutting my own
mounting plate from a thin sheet of insulating plastic, following the
example of the 4801 mounting plate).
If you boot the machine by power-cycling it, it works excellently.
Same with booting it by hitting the reset switch on the back panel.
If you boot the machine by giving a reboot command, it goes through
POST, and then stops at
0512 Mbyte Memory CPU Geode LX 500 Mhz
It hangs there for a long time, might be one minute, might be more.
Usually, I don't have the patience to deal with it, and hit the reset
switch. A few times I have waited long enough, and then it eventually
proceeds to the monitor, but it does not discover the disk drive (I
don't have a CF card loaded, so I don't know whether it would have
discovered it), and attempts to boot via PXE (which is logical, as I
have the boot order specified as 80 81 F0 FF).
My disk drive model is a Fujitsu MHV2080AH.
This is quite annoying, because it means that unattended reboots are
impossible. Either I'll have to put my 5501 on an Ethernet-controlled
power strip, or wander on down to the wiring closet where it is
installed whenever something goes wrong.
Any suggestions, other than hoping that Soekris comes up with a BIOS
upgrade soon? Running diskless and PXE-booting is not a practical
option for me.
By the way, I understand what "80" and "81" mean in the boot order,
and "F0" is also documented as meaning PXE. But what is "FF"?
