Nope.  The rating simply indicates what "rate of flow" the transformer
is capable of providing.  If you think of amperage as a physical
force, a transformer cannot "push" power any faster than the device
will consume ("pull") it.  However, if you attach a device that
requires more amperage than a transformer can provide, it tries to but
overheats and burns up like an expensive fuse.  There's far more to
that analogy, but it should cover this example.

That said, 1.5A should be plenty to run a typical 4801 - I'm running
two moderately loaded 4501s on 1.7A with no problem.
