Program? I've had pleasant experiences over the years with any of
cu, Kermit (C-Kermit) and GNU Screen for these sorts of things.
Minicom was meant to just be a free Telix clone for *nix, but really
all it gets you (in my opinion) is a pop-up curses menu and the
ability to stay frightened of command line options.
