I don't think the 4501 has auto-MIDIX ports, so you must use a crossover cable if you are connecting to another non-switch device, such as some DSL bridges or Cable modems. If you connect your 4501 temporarily to a switch with that cable, and the LED comes on, that's likely the problem.
