If you compile on another machine (doing so on the Soekris box won't exactly speed up traffic) you will be able to operate OpenBSD in text mode on 256MB, provided you aren't planning to save a lot locally. Without comp and X it's about 200MB. IMHO requiring 4GB for an OpenBSD box with console access is unheard of. After all, OpenBSD is often promoted as one of the _small_ distros! I use 1GB cards only because nowadays they're hardly more expensive than the 256 and 512MB ones.
