Im an not really answering your questions, but why don't you just get
1-2 GB CF cards and install an OpenBSD snapshot on them?  You don't
need your own build machines for that and you get the latest features.

2 GB CF cards cost around CHF 40 nowadays.

(I really would not want to go back from OpenBSD for Linux, especially
not on a firewall/router)
