Hello.

I own a Soekris net5501 which runs OpenBSD and is generally used as a
router/firewall. As it is always on and its clock is synchronized
via NTP I thought it would be nice to have a small LED- or LC-display
to show the time attached to it. I’d prefer something readable at
night (like red LEDs) as this will be used as my bedroom clock.
Something with two rows and capable to show letters would be extra
nice (so I could display the day of the week) but is not required.

Now I would like to know how what I could use for that, as I have no
experience with such displays and don’t know what to search for. I’d
prefer something plug and play for the USB port but I could probably
manage to attach something to the GPIO pins with some tips. The
serial port is of course not an option as I need it for administrative
access. Most important is that it works smoothly under OpenBSD as I’m
not going to use something else for this box.

Thanks in advance for any tips, hints, pointers, howtos or whatever,
Tobias
