I'm thinking of replacing my bulky home server with a 5501. I already have one I use for my firewall. In an attempt to minimize heat and noise I'd rather avoid using an internal HD, especially since I keep reading about them overheating and/or dying early inside the case. I'm thinking of an internal CF card for the OS and programs and a USB memory stick for data. I can get away with a 16GB flash stick for my needs.
My question is, how well do the USB sticks hold up to constant service? I'm not talking about high I/O loads here, by constant I mean it'll be plugged in and mounted 24x7. Most of the services I run are low usage, however I do process my torrents on this machine which results in the occasional reading/writing of some large files. Anyone else running all flash like this? Do those flash memory sticks overheat or die early when powered up constantly? Do they hold up well enough to last for perhaps a few years of continual use? _______________________________________________ Soekris-tech mailing list [email protected] http://lists.soekris.com/mailman/listinfo/soekris-tech
