OK, thats a different issue than the cold-boot issue the original 
poster I think was describing.

Is this with FreeBSD that you are still seeing this problem ? One 
thing I found that causes less confusion on the Soekris and FreeBSD 
booting is to make sure
options         ATA_STATIC_ID   # Static device numbering

is NOT in the kernel config.  Removing that helped with some of the 
troubled CFs causing boot issues.  However, all of the CFs available 
from my supplier today (Lexar, Transcend, Kingston and Sandisk) 
havent shown me any issues.
