Millions and millions of writes. Each particular block supports a few hundred thousand. Maybe a million or more. Depends on the card. So you can overwrite each spot on the CF fifty thousand times and not even get close to the limit. But if you write only a few spots very often (e.g. the spot used by the /var directory), the CF card will remap it siletly, so that limit of 50k (or 500k, or two million) doesn't really apply. The limit applies only if you write MUCH of the disk repeatedly. Suppose you're recording the last 20 minutes from a bunch of surveillance cameras, overwriting every block on the disk once per 20 minutes. Assume the card is a cheap consumer card and tolerates 250,000 writes. Then the card's wear-leveling won't help you, and the card will break down after only about nine years.
